At a well-attended party last night at the newly renovated event space in the Toronto Reference Library (it would be cool to get married in the library), Mayor David Miller awarded each of the five nominees with a $1000 cheque. Each of the authors was showcased in individual videos (which I helped to produce — and they turned out quite well. Terry Jefford at City of Toronto did a great job!) and the jury’s comments were read by CBC’s Matt Galloway. Then Mayor Miller returned to the stage and announced Austin Clarke the winner for his novel More and awarded him the $10,000 cheque.

There was plenty of coverage today: The National Post; The Toronto Star, CBC.ca, CBC “Metro Morning”, CP24, even USA Today picked up the story. Oddly, The Globe and Mail failed to report it.

Here’s a link to the Mayor’s twitpic from last night.

More is published by Thomas Allen.
